First College Project

As visible within the image on the left, my brief for my project was to create a 2D, 8bit, emotional and magical game for a young audience. This means it has to be easy to understand, as well as a complex enough story that it would make the players want to play more. Although sometimes big companies fail to do so, I was given this as a test to what I am capable of and what I’m not, so I knew I had to focus on my strongest points (my coding/mechanics). I was given 5 weeks to complete my task, so once again knew I had to act fast so I don’t fall behind. Therefore, I made myself a schedule. I will not share my schedule as it has so much personal information that there’s too much to blur out.
After I got my games designated Theme, I decided to look up the meaning, and after that I started thinking what I could implement into my game and what would most likely be off-limits.
To further understand what my theme meant, I researched images based on games/sketches around the idea of magic/witch-craft/enchanting. This helps me visualise the style of the game I’m going to make, and also inspires me to create similar weapons/backgrounds.
As soon as I understood what I could make, I went straight to ideation. This is the process of creating numerous ideas to give me a further insight on what I could possibly create. After creating this mind map, I decided to go with an easily complex biblical/mythological story.
